Labelling concepts : slatestarcodex

Scott and Elizier are good at naming concepts that are sometimes new and difficult and abstract (e.g. Moloch). It's of course important to name things in a way that conveys some information about it and is mnemonic.

I feel sometimes Bostrom and Eric Weinstein go a bit overboard with the neoligisms tho.

My meta question: is there a label for this type of labelling of concepts? Or do we simply refer to it generally as coinages.

Slight tangent: is there a label for the subgenre of ideas that when discovered are so simple that they can be easily understood and it's confusing as to why they took so long to be discovered? Evolution is the prime example of these ideas.
